Last time I was back home, visiting my family in Novi Sad, my mom gifted me a throw, a carpet, a cover made by my great-grandmother from wool. It's a versatile object of decorative, emotional, and warming values and I am not sure how it is called in English, or in any other language for that matter. The entire object was produced by her, Grozda, my great-grandmother – and the sheep that gave the wool, I guess – from turning raw wool into something she could work with to dyeing it.
My mom, an incredibly creative person herself, knows to describe in detail how they made these objects, along with all the items that women from that era crafted – blankets, thick covers, clothes. I am mesmerized by her stories. I was humbled by the thought – the fact – that I often take many things that I wear and use at home and elsewhere for granted.
